Wave Rider is an endless surfing game where you control a surfboard or jet ski, dodging rocks, trees, and waterfalls and collecting starfish. The further you go, the faster you go, the easier it is to... fail.
Imagine you're standing on a surfboard hurtling across the blue sea. In front of you are rolling waves. However, in front of you, there are also reefs, floating logs, sinkholes, and waterfalls cascading down onto your head.
Touching any obstacle will kill you. Logs? Dead. Rocks? Dead. Sinking hole? Fall in dead. Waterfall? Dead too.
Starfish: Along the way, daring players can find sparkling starfish as rewards. Pick them up to unlock new boards and jet skis. But starfish are often found in the most dangerous places, right next to rocks, in the middle of waterfalls, or on paths where logs are floating.
If you take the risk, the reward is more beautiful, cooler boards. If you make the mistake, you're back at the starting line.
The further you go, the faster your board speeds. At first, you can leisurely dodge a log. Later, everything flashes past your eyes like lightning. If you have a split second of slow reflexes, you will crash into a rock, and then... it's over.
The game has dozens of surfboards and jet skis to unlock. Each looks different, but most importantly, your skill is key. A beautiful surfboard won't help you dodge rocks better.
Every time you die, you think: "This time I'll do better." And then you die again. And play again. That's the loop of Wave Rider. There's no final reward, no celebration. Only the distance you've traveled and the pride of surpassing your own previous record.
